Their Brief - - Datacard Group are the leading provider of card issuance and secure card personalisation. Datacard Group provides customers in more than 120 countries with the systems, software and consultative expertise they need for profitable card programs. Financial institutions, corporations, government agencies, telecommunications companies, transit providers, service bureaus, schools, hospitals and other organisations use Datacard* solutions to personalise, issue and manage a variety of financial and identification cards. Datacard Group applications often require complex control software with some sites handling up to 100,000 cards per day, large throughputs and complex anti-fraud functions. To process the large number of daily transactions requires high-speed database access, full audit tracking with ability to track historical processing records. Most installations have a built-in contingency system to handle major emergencies or equipment failure.
Our Solution - MicroSec's involvement with Datacard Group began in the 1980s when we were used as a software resource to backup the internal development team when extra resource or expertise was needed. In the 1990s, Datacard Group gave responsibility for UK bespoke software development and support to MicroSec, a situation that remains to this day.
As system requirements grew to a point beyond where each card personalisation machine could be controlled by its own computer. MicroSec designed and developed a management system to pre-process and distribute work to each machine, utilising a network of computers with bespoke software and using FoxPro for maximum database throughput. A modern version of this system runs today in many of the card issuance centres. Increasingly the software has migrated to Dotnet code and Sequel Server however the core system remains much the same, a tribute to the highly efficient and flexible design produced by MicroSec.
