Siemens IT - Registration software solutions
Their Brief - - Siemens IT Solutions and Services Ltd won the contract to design, develop, and support the Land Register System for the Registers of Scotland. The system to be developed was required to manage all the complex relationships associated with hundreds of years of historical land records and manage applications from citizens for registration and transfer of title of land throughout all of Scotland.
Our Solution - Working in close partnership with Siemens, MicroSec provided lead design resource and key analysts for development of the Land Register system. The system has been designed as a client-server system, using Perl as the programming language and Informix as the database. Databases and server processes are run on Silicon Graphics servers, running Irix, while clients run on Windows and Sun Solaris. Latterly, Linux servers have been used in addition to Irix for increased cost-effective deployment options. The entire system, including the client-server protocols and load balancing algorithms, was developed within the project team. The system has continuously evolved and grown over a period of 10+ years. Throughout this project lifecycle, MicroSec have helped Siemens to identify and harness new technology to provide operational business improvements for the client. The system first went live in 1994, and currently supports multiple networked servers and over 1,200 concurrent PC and Sun workstation users. The system continues to support the core business operations for Land Registration throughout Scotland. MicroSec continue to provide daily operational support together with ongoing design and programming services for the progressive evolution of the system.
